Who doesn't love reading in the fresh air with a friend?

Gorgeous example of Victorian transferware on porcelain. Image is transferred from a design of an inked, hand engraved, warmed copper plate to a wet tissue paper and then onto the body of pottery it decorates.  It is placed and piece is fired with glaze to secure.

Gold tone metal is called pinchbeck. Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, mixed in proportions so that it closely resembles gold in appearance. It was invented in the early 18th century. Used for cheaper jewellery but also worn by people in case of robbery. They could hand over their pinchbeck and keep their real jewels hidden.

6 x 5.5 cm

Some light scratching. See photo for details. Both faces of figures are perfect.

This is a statement brooch that celebrates literacy, friendship and love between women. Gorgeous.
