This fabulous brooch represents the magic birds of London called ring-necked parakeets (sometimes rose-ringed parakeets). More specifically, it is the Indian subspecies of this bird (Psittacula krameri manillensis).
There are many wild and romantic theories of how they came to live in our city but it is believed they escaped from aviaries in the 1970s.
Listen for their squawks and look out for a flash of brightly coloured wings. I’ve seen them in Abbey Wood and North London in East Finchley, Highgate and on the Heath.
Handmade by a talented embroiderer this brooch is a unique treasure for lovers of birds, decorative stitching and gorgeous pastel colours.
The brooch is in excellent condition with the embroidery bright and clean. There is some wear and scratches on the reverse.
Even heavy brooches can be worn on modern garments using a supportive brooch sponge. Find out how - https://audrasbrooches.com/blogs/how-not-to-lose-a-brooch-ever/how-not-to-lose-a-brooch-ever
