"Put a bird on it", ah Portlandia we miss you.
Two lovely songbirds one yellow, one red are sitting on a branch with dogwood blossoms. A lovely and delicate brooch, the image is a wonderful example of transferware.
Transfer printing is a method of decorating pottery or other materials such as porcelain using an engraved copper or steel plate from which a monochrome print on paper is taken which is then transferred by pressing onto the ceramic piece.
I am guessing these were made in the 1930s or 40s and represent a fascination with nature and pastoral imagery copied from imported items from Japan.
Very whimsical and detailed this pin will look lovely on anyone but will be especially cherished by twitchers and collectors of porcelain.
Condition: Mint condition although the edges of the metal frame have some discolouration. Fully cleaned and polished this adds to the antique finish of these pins. I hesitated to scrub them so as not to remove the wonderful colours.
