Romantic Couple French Porcelain Brooches Silver

All of these vintage French porcelain brooches are made from porcelain and feature hand painted, transfer ware and glazed designs.

The terms Fragonard Courting Couple or Fragonard Love Story refer to a motif inspired by the work of the French artist, Jean Honeré Fragonard (1732-1806). He was a printmaker and painter during from the Roccoc or Late Baroque movement.

Fragonard-Style Scenes are often used in porcelain brooches and tableware including decorative items. The brooches often depict a man and a woman in an intimate or romantic scene, dressed in 18th-century attire typical of Fragonard's style. These scenes are set in lush garden or pastoral settings.

These brooches are a nod to Rococo aesthetics, a style that emphasized lightness, elegance, and the carefree lifestyle of the French aristocracy. Owning or wearing such a brooch offers a connection to this luxurious past.

Porcelain is a ceramic material made by heating clay-type materials to high temperatures. It includes clay in the form of kaolinite. There is a distinction between hard-paste porcelain, fired at 1400 degrees Celsius, and soft-paste porcelain, fired at 1200 degrees Celsius.

Two of these are unsigned but confirmed from La St Uzienne, French town famous for its ceramics based in the regional district of Drôme. One is signed.

Saint-Uze ceramics were produced in several villages in the Drôme from the beginning of the 19th century and during the 20th century, notably in the village of the same name. It has become a favourite of collectors.
