What condition is my brooch in?

What condition is my brooch in?

Audra’s Brooches is a unique collection of vintage or antique brooches, pins and clips. I do not change any of the original designs. I simply clean, polish and photograph the pieces before researching their history and style. I also test the pins and safety clasps. My brooches range from 1880 to 1980 and are most often one-of-a-kind. I do sometimes stock multiples of items by particular designers or a job lot of unworn items. This is usually a rare but exciting find.

My collection is consistent in quality and I do not sell anything that is broken or overly tarnished more than it should be based on its age. Each product description will mention the condition of each piece, including unworn in either excellent (minor wear) or good (moderate wear), and if marked, the name of the designer or country of origin.

The quality of vintage jewellery at all levels, from five and dime novelty pins to gold plated designer pieces is not comparable to modern pieces. Many of the base metals and platings have been triple dipped, which prevents sensitivities. Also, this level of craftship means vintage jewellery typically lasts for years, compared to a modern piece of jewellery mass produced using modern techniques. The antique pieces, especially Victorian silver brooches often have visible repairs and pins replaced. I believe this adds to their charm as historical objects.

Please do not hesitate to contact me audra@audrasbrooches.com if you have any questions or wish to know more about a brooch.
